    The New Racism

People love to hate racism; it's almost trendy. We're quick to identify it in others and attack it with self-righteous fury. We even spot it where it doesn't actually exist.
Our basis for hating it? It's ignorant. The color of someone's skin is not important; we can see past that. People are people, and we are far too open-minded to make little of someone's humanity just because they don't look quite like us.

But maybe we're not as enlightened as we think we are. Maybe we've just redirected our dislike for those who are unlike us, and maybe this new direction is more socially acceptable.

I'm speaking, of course, about fat people. This post was actually prompted by a "fatspo" post, complete with comments like this:

"omg, theyre all so discustingly fat and ugly!! UGH!! I will never be that"
"my fostermother is 300 pounds!!! GROSSNESS"
"Ewwwww! I can't believe these ppl would even let their pic be taken!"
"dunno how they can look even proud of their bodies, aaagh!!"
    "I puked. Alot."

Oh yes, I forgot that it's okay to say things like that about fellow humans as long as they're overweight.
I'm not trying to be down on the person who posted that; she was just trying to find an innovative way to motivate people. But really, this is no different than racism. It's stripping someone down to less than human because they don't look like us, or because we find them unattractive. It's deciding that someone is worth nothing unless they meet your arbitrary standards for beauty. It's putting yourself above an entire class of people. It's saying things that make people cry, that shatter self-esteems, that will haunt people for the rest of their lives.

Prejudice begins the instant we think that we are better than somebody else.

    that does make sense.
my friends do that all the time.

woah i've never thought about it.
it's the exact same thing as hating a black person just for being black...hating a fat person just because they're fat.

    thanks for bringing this up.

Hehe. I (somehow) ended up on that lame blog, too.

I unfriended and unsubscribed to my subscription that recommended it. It's just ridiculous. Stupid, childish, catty, cruel. I want no part in that.

As if these people don't get taunted enough, right? Honestly. People make fun of them, say hurtful things, treat them like shit, don't hire them, don't get to know them...and, why? Because they look different. Because they can't eat whatever they want without gaining weight.

It's not even about gluttony or laziness. Tell me, how many super skinny girls with racehorse metabolisms eat whatever they want, never exercise, and get picked on for their food choices? None. Why is that?! The "fat" girl with hypothyroidism could eat the proper number of calories, exercise, and she would still get made fun of. It's not right.

And, really, if you think about it, making someone feel ashamed of their body won't help them lose weight. I mean, if someone is severely overweight, you mocking them won't make them start exercising. In fact, it will probably just have the opposite effect (or lead to EDs.)

In the end, I think the moral of the story if that we are all people, and that we should try to treat everyone based on who they are, not what they look like.

    THE END.

    Thank you for your thoughts.
I've struggled with S.I. for about 6 years now. Last night was just bad for me and I tried to set limits for myself, but it just kept growing and growing.

I think that everyone should keep their dman personal negatives to themselves. I mean people have feelings. And we r all made the same. Melanin or no melanin, fat or skinny. We are all of the same mold.
